Kizzy's For Sale by Owner Selling Tip #5
Paint Cheerfully! Unless your house was just recently painted then it makes good sense to repaint your entire house. A freshly painted house makes a home look clean and very becoming to potential buyers.
Assuming your putting your house on the market soon (list for free on Kizzy.com), then now would be a good time to paint. Considering that it is likely to cost you a few hundred dollars to paint, if done correctly you’re likely to get more than that in return.
Some popular questions are; can I clean the walls instead? If not, which colors should I use? The best answers are “no” don’t clean the walls. The only exception would be if it is only a tiny area you are cleaning and it is in either the bathroom or kitchen where high gloss paint was used. Besides that it is your best bet to repaint. When you repaint, paint in light neutral colors. If your favorite color is brown, it does not matter, don’t do it. It’s dark and absorbs all of the light which is a bad thing since we want the light reflected around the room.
You do have choices though. One style of painting that has recently become popular is textured painting. Here is a good example of how to textured paint a wall or ceiling. Another option is accent walls. An accent wall is a wall that is a different color that is different than the rest of the room. This could provide some character to a room, but remember, don’t go to crazy with the colors. Keep them light and warm for people to feel at home with.
